We've Entered the Twentieth Century

It seemed like it took us a long time to reach the probate files for the 1900s.  It has been fun to find out what kind of things were going on from 1900 to 1909.  See what you think!

  • 1900 - Kodak began selling the Brownie camera for $1.00.  Construction begins on the NYC subway system.
  • 1901 - First safety razor came on the market.  The vacuum cleaner was invented.
  • 1902 - The Teddy bear introduced.
  • 1903 - First baseball world series.  The Boston Red Sox won!  Orville and Wilbur Wright made their first flight.  Crayola Crayons were put on the market.
  • 1904 - The Olympic games were held in St. Louis, Missouri.
  • 1905 - The first US movie theater opens.
  • 1906 - The San Francisco earthquake hits and 3,000 people died.  More than half the city is burned to the ground.
  • 1907 - First electric washing machine is marketed.
  • 1908 - Ford introduced the Model T.  It goes on the market for $850.00.
  • 1909 - The first fingerprint evidence was used in a murder case.  Plastic is invented.
