Missionary Moments #48--Aug 2, 2015

This has been an interesting week at work for us.  I have felt so many times since we started serving here in New Hampshire that the work that we are doing is important and many times we have been able been able to find a mistake or have recognized a problem to avoid a mistake as we work on these documents.  I can bear testimony that "whom God calls He qualifies" because we have certainly been a recipient of that promise.   Something that has really amazed both of us is the ability we have had to accomplish the goals we set for ourselves as we have moved through this almost year.  When we began we could barely get 1,000 copies done in a day.  Once we began to understand the process we then began to see our document captures increase to 1,500 and then 2,000 pictures a day and this week again we have increased our output to 2,400 pictures. What has been so amazing is that the time we are on the camera has not increased.  We left work on Friday discussing the fact that we are certainly not doing this alone and that is a very exciting realization.

Next week (August 7-14) on Family Search they are having an event call "Fuel the Find" in which they would like to have 100,000 participants doing indexing to get the records available to anyone who is trying to find their ancestors.  I hope that many of you will join in the challenge. A couple of evenings during the week I have started indexing.  This past week I have been indexing the Freedmen Records which has been very interesting and sometimes sad.  There is so much history in these records!

On Friday after we finished at the archives we drove over to Albany, NY and spent the night and then we drove on to Cooperstown to visit the National Baseball Hall of Fame museum.  What a beautiful drive and what an interesting place to visit.  I can't say that we are particular baseball fans, although I loved playing when I was a girl, but the museum was great and we enjoyed a wonderful movie talking about the history of the game.  I have to admit I got a little teary eyed as we all sang "Take me out to the ballgame" at the end!  In case you didn't know Scott is a big Cardinals fan and we finished in the gift shop where he bought a new hat that he will wear proudly in the coming years.  We decided to drive home a different way so we could see areas that were new to us.  Every area is beautiful and this new route was right up there for beauty. We drove through the town where Oliver Wendell Holmes lived and I remember thinking why would he have ever left this beautiful place.  I took quite a few pictures so check the blog in the next few days for some updates.  Have a great week!
