The Monkey and the Organ Grinder

We visited Rhode Island on Monday so we could show Kent and Becky one of our favorite places. We spent some time on Newport which is one of the three islands in the bay.  We came upon this statue of an organ grinder and his monkey that was in a marketplace where we had stopped.  According to Wikipedia organ grinders showed up in the late 1800s.  I remember the organ grinders when I was a girl and loved giving pennies to the monkey.  He would run up and grab it out of our hands, put the penny in his pocket and then tip his hat. I wonder now how much the organ grinder made after a day of collecting pennies.
