CA Duncans

Recently we met Perry and Makylee in San Jose and spent a few days with them in the area. We had a great time and saw lots of great things. Some of the wildlife we saw includes Elk, Mule Deer, Harbor Seals, Sea Lions, Humpback Whales (in abundance and sometimes breaching), dolphins, a bat ray, some cool insects and birds. While we were there we went to the Winchester Mystery House, and saw a historic building that was continually expanded until it became a confusing collection of rooms. We went on a ferry out to Alcatrraz Island and saw the abandoned prison along with a huge quantity of stinky seabirds that make the island their home. Their were also displays about the Native American activists who settled on the island after the prison closed and other historical events. There were good views of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge. Some of the group went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium while the rest of us went to the coast and checked out a lighthouse. We also spent time at the beach and Perry and Makylee had some photos taken. We ate seafood several times and had farm made pies from Gizfdich farms. It was a good few days.

Ava's Getting a New Uniform!

The new uniform will look great on Ava!  She was notified that she has been selected to be a member of the 2025-26 BYU Color Guard.  I know you'll all want to celebrate her great accomplishment.  She has set goals and made every effort to accomplish them.  BYU is so lucky to have her and I definitely plan to attend at least one game this year so I can cheer for her as she cheers for her new team!  I'll sent a new picture when she is decked out in her new BYU blues.

Pioneer Run!

Katie sent me these pictures today.  She wrote: "My dad and I ran a 5K this morning.  It was from the Old Provo Temple to the Provo City Center Temple.  Abby and William walked it."  The 24th of July in Utah is always so great!  By the way, this morning I got an email from Family Search telling me I was related to 100 pioneers who came into the Utah Valley during the 1848 and a number of years after that.  One of those is W. W. Phelps. That means all of you have pioneers ancestors too!

Pioneer Parade

The Utah Duncan's went to the Pioneer Day parade float preview.  Everyone gets to see the floats and pick their favorite for the people's choice award.  So Will, Katie, Rachel, Austin and Abby went to make their selection.

Meg

I don't know if I mentioned that Meg and Abby have moved into a new apartment recently.  Today she sent me a picture of her bathroom all decorated up!  Can't wait for the wedding so I can see all that she and Abby have done.

Caleb and Uncle Andy

Caleb and I were invited to go up to the Sierra Nevada mountains with a member of our ward. These photos show some of what we saw. Not shown include lots of birds including a bald eagle that flew very close to our car and a Marmot which we saw but not close enough for a photo.

The Provo Duncans

Lexy and Ellis went with friends this weekend to Yellowstone National Park.  She said the trip has been great.

Meet the Teacher

School starts for Graham and Eden on Tuesday so on Thursday they went to meet their teachers for this year.  Eden is now in sixth grade and Graham in fourth grade.  Aunt Amy has been hired to teach in a pre-school and she will start that on Tuesday as well.

CA Duncan's 2025 Summer Vacation

On our recent trip we started by driving up to Reedsport, Oregon. We did a few things around there before heading south and camping at a different place further south each nite until our last night near Fort Bragg before heading home. During the trip we saw a large black bear, many elk and deer, river otters, starfish and sea urchins, lots of different birds, crabs, banana slugs, insects, salamanders, a few mushrooms and many different kinds of plants. Some of the things we did include going to: the Elk Observatory, Exploding Whale Beach, a bog filled with pitcher plants, a sea lion cave, several lighthouses, seafood restaurants, ocean observatories, local history museums, a coast guard museum, many different types of parks, trails and hikes, beaches and ports, and tourist shops, redwood forests, a restaurant that serves a savory waffle cone filled with mashed potatoes meat and gravy, tide pools, bird refuges, a trestle bridge, an ice cream shop, boardwalk trails, Pygmy forests and much more. See the attached photos for some of the highlights.
