I Often Wonder

I haven't posted names for a while but thought I'd share some of the most recent ones I have seen.  The only sad part of this is that we can't talk to the parents to find out why they named their children such unique names. I'm sure it made perfect sense to them!  Enjoy!

  1. Ai is a Bible location (Joshua 8), Amaziah (2 Kings 14), Beriah (Genesis 46 and others), and Jabez (1 Chronicles 4:10) are all Bible names. Jabez was popular a few years ago because when he's mentioned in the Bible it's in a context that some interpreted as being about getting wealthy through prayer. Shubel is a variation on a Bible name (1 Chronicles 25:4) that is supposed to be Hebrew for "captive of God" and the deranged abolitionist John Brown used it for a pseudonym. Alburn is a fish. Achacy is the name of a Polish Catholic bishop. Solomon Gessner, as far as I can tell a German-American poet, has a character Clemina in one of his books. Orenda is an Iroquois word.
