If you have ever heard Owen play the trombone you knew that he is a gifted musician and his love of music is a big part of his life. I got a link from Aunt Becky yesterday that Owen has continued to excel in his ability to bring music to us in many ways. Owen was named the winner of the 2020 Hillert Award Composition. The article says, "The Center for Church Music in partnership with the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians has announced the winners of the 2020 Richard Hillert Award in Student Composition. Owen a graduate of Concordia University was selected for his composition for a choir, clarinet and piano entitled "I Am Still Seeking You." Another student from Concordia University Nebraska also won. The award honors the legacy of Concordia University Chicago distinguished professor of Music Dr. Richard Hillert. The award is given every year to a current student at a Lutheran university or seminary."
Owen will receive a cash prize of $500 and will have his work performed at the ALCM biennial conference. He will also be going to Chicago and the ALCM conference. Your cousin has now entered the seminary in St. Louis, Missouri to achieve another goal of becoming a minister to serve in the Lutheran Church. I think I can say with confidence that he will continue to make beautiful music in the coming years.
Congratulations Owen! We are all so proud of you.
