We have started working on our first probate project here at the New Hampshire state archives. We are digitizing probate records from a county in New Hampshire. The probate records go from the 1860s to the 1920s. As dad pointed out--from the Civil War to World War I. When all those files are done the archive will have digitized files of everything that was in these boxes. We have 3 out of 24 boxes prepped. Each probate file is opened, put in a folder, and all of the documents are opened and ready to be photographed. Since we started this project Scott and I have one of the three boxes digitized and we now wait until the pictures we took are okay (this information comes from the family history
specialists in Salt Lake City). If everything looks okay we will set them aside to go back into the archives. If there are problems we get the files out and retake the pictures that are a problem and then again send them to Salt Lake for review. The day goes by quite quickly and so far we have digitized over 2000 pictures. We hope in the coming weeks we will get ideas that will speed the process up.
