After spending a few days in Montreal with Ellis and Lexy we were both going our separate ways. They headed south to Toronto while we headed north to Quebec. Despite the warning signs on the freeway we never saw any moose on the drive. Once we arrived in Quebec we went to a fancy park called Domaine de Maizerets that had a wooded area with hiking paths, plus a hedge maze and an observation tower. After solving the maze and climbing the tower we drove over to the old town part of Quebec. We walked all over down there in a part of town that looks very much like historic parts of Europe. We saw a fountain, giant puppet like figures and headed through one of the gates into the old city. We looked at all the old buildings then stopped for a light lunch at a Traditional Quebec food restaurant. We had a cheese platter with lots of local cheeses and shared some desserts. Next we walked down to an enormous historical hotel called Chateaux Fontenac. Near there are views of the St Laurence River and we got pictures with cannons and such. From there we headed to an area with shops and another Catholic church called Notre Dame. The final area on our itinerary was a street called Petit Champlain which is the oldest commercial area in North America. We went down the "breakneck" stairs to that area which was started in the early 1600s. It is a street lined with shops and restaurants. We looked in several of the shops and enjoyed the history and the european feeling it had. By then we were ready for dinner so we went to a restaurant called the sauteed rabbit (Le Lapin Saute) which specializes in sauteed rabbit. Caleb had rabbit poutine and I had a rabbit pot pie. Angela and Ava didn't think eating rabbits was a good idea so they did not. After dinner we started heading back. Angela took Caleb up the funicular (or funiculaire as they say in French) and Ava and I raced them using the breakneck stairs. They won. We drove by and admired the beautiful homes nearby as we headed to our hotel for the night.
