Massachusetts Day 11

We started the day in Salem. Our first stop was at a memorial for the victims of the witch trials and a cemetery nearby with some of the early participants of the trial. Next we went to the witch trial museum and watched a presentation about the trials. After that we went to Old Salem Village where there are some recreations of the kinds of homes from the original colony along with information about life at that time. That was the last stop in Salem so we headed inland. Caleb and I got dropped off at a tour of a famous modern house designed by Walter Gropius who was the creator of the Bauhaus who fled the Nazis and ended up in the US. It was a fascinating tour of a beautifully designed home with tons of art from famous artists. We really enjoyed the tour. In order to keep Caleb from only having a fun tour we went on a short hike nearby while we waited for Angela and Ava to get back. They had been touring the house Louisa May Alcott had grown up in and is featured in her writing. Once we got back together we drove by Walden Pond and went to downtown Concord for a walk around. Our final project of the day was to learn the difference between east coast and west coast chinese food.
