Today was our last real vacation day. We started the morning by going the Mystic Seaport Museum. It is actually much more than a museum. It has several different Museum exhibits in various buildings. One exhibit was yacht racing trophies, another exhibit was about glass models of simple ocean creatures, another was a collection of figures from the front of ships. In addition to the museums there was a whole village of typical shops that would have been in a shipbuilding community. There was a general store, a ship provisioner, a blacksmith, printshop, ropemaker, woodcarver and more. In many of the shops were experts demonstrating and sharing the history of the time. There were also a bunch of different historical buildings and displays about historical events such as historical cooking methods and the temperance movement. There were also a bunch of historical and modern vessels of various types. We really enjoyed it. After our morning there we had an Italian food lunch east coast style. We had pizza, calzones and grinders. We discovered ricotta cheese is more popular here then in the west but all the food was really good. Next we explored the shopping/ tourist district before heading to another lighthouse that was nearby and had good ocean views. Our time was running out and we had to head back to Boston to turn in the rental car. That done we got a ride to our last hotel where we await our flight home tomorrow and Ava started her online college classes which started today.
