Chuckle for the Day

I had a chuckle when I drove behind a mini-van and read the sticker on the back window.

"Honk if a kid falls out!"

Let the Dig Begin!

This morning Meg left for her archeological dig in the four corners area.  She will be roughing it for five weeks!  I sure hope they took lots of sunscreen.  I can't wait to hear all the details for her trip when she returns!

Katie & Perry's Oahu Pictures

Lincoln's Back

Lincoln said he had a great time in Africa but because his phone was stolen at a soccer game on his first days there he only had a few pictures to share.  Hopefully more are coming in from the people in charge of the program but they are touring in Europe before they head home.  Hopefully more pictures will follow!

Ohau

The trip to Hawaii was truly wonderful.  Having this opportunity was such a treat and there was so much to see.  My best travel buddy Barb found us a great place to stay and was game for all the activities along the way.  We all enjoyed getting to spend time with her and her  granddaughter who had a graduation trip with Grandma to celebrate.  I didn't do great on the pictures but more will be coming in from Perry and Katie.  I have to admit we put them in charge of finding us interesting places to eat and they definitely did a great job of that.

The best part of the trip for me was seeing Owen and Evangeline married in a beautiful ceremony.  More pictures will come as soon as their photographer gets them done and I will share much better pictures when they come.  We met so many nice people at the wedding and loved being able to spend time with Uncle Ben, Aunt Becky, Miriam, Jeremy and Peter.  Thank you Owen and Evangeline for sharing this special day with us!

Dole Pineapple

One of our visits during the time on Oahu was to the Dole Pineapple Plantation.  It was beautiful there with much to see.  Perry and Katie had gone there the first day and said it was really nice.  It was!

I think the national bird of the island is the rooster!

Food

 The food was fabulous!

Scuba Divers

All I can say about these two is that I was in awe of their scuba diving.  Scared to death but awed.  I have never been so happy to see them walk out of the water once the first dive was complete!  But once wasn't enough for them.  A few days later they did another dive but this time off of a chartered boat.  The excitement of that dive was that two sharks decided to join their diving party.  No injuries just excitement that they got to see them.  I didn't get pictures of the second dive but the second trip I think was the one they enjoyed the most.  But they didn't bring back the any treasures like they did on the first dive.  Perry won with a man's tennis shoe and a little girl's pineapple sunglasses!

Pearl Harbor

For me, a must see each time you go to Oahu is a visit to the Pearl Harbor museum.  We weren't able to get tickets to go out to the actual memorial but the museums were exceptional.  I have felt each time I visit that I am definitely on sacred ground.  I feel the same when I go to a veterans cemetery.  Perry and Katie were able to get tickets on Tuesday and did get to go out to the site where the Arizona lays underwater.

The Ocean!

The ocean was so beautiful and very blue.  Every time we went around a curve or into a new area and the ocean would come into view it always took my breath away.

Game Night

Ava has been participating in a game night with other kids in the stake.  Each time they meet they have a special activity for all the youth to do.  The picture below was a color night and coming up is an outdoor movie night.  I love people who reach out to the youth and invite them to come together for some fun!

California Camping-Part 2

This weekend the California Duncans went to the Mount Lassen Volcanic National Park.  They camped at Manzanita Lake.  While there Caleb and Ava earned their junior ranger badges and they hiked natures trails. They went to a giant rock that had been thrown 3 miles from the eruption of Mt. Lassen when it erupted in 1921.  They also found a boiling pool of mud and another boiling pool of sulfur water that smelled like rotten eggs.  This was also a result of the 1921 volcanic activity.  Uncle Andy said they had a great time camping, hiking, seeing cool animals and plants, playing in steams and eating great campfire food.
