Brigham at the Temple

In preparation for his mission Brigham went to the Timpanogos Temple on Friday.  It is always special when family is there to support you at such a special time.  I found this explanation of the endowment on the Church website.  "The word endowment means "gift," and your temple endowment is a special gift of knowledge and power that God gives to those who are ready to receive it.  It is an ordinance needed to return to God's presence.  As part of this ordinance, you are taught more about the plan of salvation, the mission and Atonement of Jesus Christ, the love Heavenly Father has for His children, and your divine potential.  The covenants you make during the endowment focus on how you can become more like Jesus Christ."  The time is fast approaching that Brigham will begin his missionary service.  The temple is a great place to get ready for such an important assignment.

Morning Routine

Aunt Amy has spent many hours over the past 17 years fixing girls hair.  It always paid off with these beauties and she continually finds new ways to send them out the door with a cute new do!

And Then...

There are those in the family that you never know how their hair is going to turn out!

Ho-Co

For everyone my age that stands for Homecoming.  Obviously texting homecoming is a waste of time, so of course these smart teenagers shortened the word.  That being said Ruth is a senior this year and has been invited to homecoming.  It's a big deal around here to do something special to invite.  They obviously aren't that fond of talking on the phone either!  So this cute treat and poster was left at the Whitney's front door much to the delight of Eden who answered it!

Once it was received then Ruth had to step up and respond in a unique way to the young man who asked her.  After an incredibly busy week of school, church activities, and a orchestra retreat, Ruth was able to accept the invitation.  (Don't worry--her friends let him know that she would go and her special response was coming!)  She ordered the pizza and then included the attached note to it with a jar of pickles that said, "It's a done dill!"  Teenagers are so clever!

Now the real challenge begins for Ruth and Aunt Amy--finding a beautiful modest dress!  Stay tuned, pictures will follow after the hoe-down--I mean Ho-Co!

It's All in the Details

The major construction is finished and now Aunt Cathy is doing my favorite part of decorating.  The details.  She sent me this picture of her kitchen area after she installed lights under and in her cabinets. I think it looks stunning!

Elder Duncan 1967

I found this picture of Grandpa on Family Search.  I don't recognize the name of the person who submitted it but it was such a great picture.  I wanted you to see your Grandpa when he was a new missionary in Switzerland.

Volleyball--Go #7

Jane played her last volleyball game for the season.  It was so nice to watch her continue to improve through the series of games.  I also noticed how her confidence increased from the growth she was experiencing as she participated. I hope this is just the beginning of volleyball games that I will watch her play in.

Happy Birthday Lincoln!

 20 Years Old

It is hard to believe that two decades have passed since that fateful day when we saw evil at
it's worst and yet for our family we saw love at it's best when you were born.  You have a serious nature and are often a man of a few words but when you open up I am always touched by how significant the things you say are.  In spite of dealing with chemo-therapy medications and other health issues that you have, you have kept moving forward Lincoln.  I am proud of that because I sometimes forget that you are dealing with big issues but you never complain.  I wish you would have been able to complete your missionary service but have been awed by how you continued to serve when you came home.  There are three young men who are in the mission field right now because you accepted the assignment from your Bishop to help them understand the importance of serving.  You stepped up and helped them get ready to finish what you had started.  I look forward to the next decade where many decisions will alter the course of your life.  You can do great things Lincoln.  I don't doubt that I will be impressed!

Happy Birthday Perry!

 24 Years Old

I have always described you as a big teddy bear.   You have such a kind heart and a very down to earth perspective in dealing with things that have come your way.  To say I'm proud of you would not come close to explaining what a wonderful man you are.  So often I remember when I was recovering a couch and thinking out loud that I think I might have bit off more than I could do.  You stopped what you were doing and said, "Can we fix it?  Yes we can!"  Bob the Builder became your go-to guy for having a positive attitude.  The fact that you can fix anything is such a credit to you.  You always help anyone who needs you,  What a blessing you have been to all of us.  I see great things ahead for you and don't doubt that you will continue to always step forward and help when needed.  You are such a good example of never giving up and always pressing forward with faith.  Keep up the good work Perry.  Many great things are ahead for you!

It's Fall! & Football!

On Friday night Ruth and Jane went to the football game at Highland High.  On Saturday night I invited the Whitney's over to watch the BYU/University of Arizona ballgame.  I put together a tailgate (kitchen table) party for everyone to enjoy.  We had the traditional hot dogs and mini corn dogs along with various food items to get us ready for the big game.  I have to admit it was more of an edge of your seat game that I would have preferred but BYU prevailed (24-16) and left Las Vegas the winners.  It was nice to be feeling a little better after a hard week of nausea, but by Friday I finally got a second wind and hopefully the surgery is truly behind me.  I am already gathering my menu ideas for the next game!  Go BYU!

Miriam Update

If you are following the crazy weather hitting throughout the U.S. you probably heard about Hurricane Ida.  Miriam said they cancelled classes because of flooding in the area.  Her campus wasn't affected but the subway that she goes on was flooded.  This picture was taken close to her campus.

Mermaid at Work

Congratulations to Abby!  She is now teaching toddlers to swim.  Those lucky little ones are going to love Abby's patient nature and her swimming skills are exceptional!  Another working girl at the Utah Duncan's home.

Impressive!

Aunt Cathy completed refinishing the table and chairs for their dining room.  We spent many hours sitting around the old one but you would never know that it is the same table.  She definitely has a gift of refurbishing furniture!
