Grand Canyon

After a wonderful visit for Thanksgiving, Uncle Andy and family left for some time together visiting the Grand Canyon and a short stay in Flagstaff.  Ava and Caleb continued their quest to earn their Park Ranger badge while at the Grand Canyon.  Here are some pictures that he sent me from their trip.

Happy Birthday Meg!

"A meaningful life is not being rich, being popular, being highly educated or being perfect.  It is about being real, being humble, being able to share ourselves, and touch the lives of others.  It is only then that we could have a full, happy and contented life."

More Thanksgiving

I got these pictures from Lexy and Ellis.  Ellis outdid himself with his pie baking skills!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Graham and other first graders celebrated a pre Thanksgiving yesterday.  Aunt Amy was able to attend and said they did a great job in their program.  We will definitely have him do an encore of the song he sang with his class.

CA Duncans

Last weekend the family traveled to Riverside for Ava's Color Guard performance in an area wide competition with other high schools.  They also spent some time with their cousins who live in the area.

I Found One!

I think I found Owen's doppelganger (an apparition or double of a living person)!  I was listening to Bill O'Reilly on the computer and playing a game at the same time.  He was talking to a man from the Heritage Foundation about the election and I wanted to see who he was.  I opened the screen and there was Owen looking at me!  Not really, unless Owen has a side job.  I was so fascinated at the similarities that I took a quick picture (sorry his eyes are closed) and wanted to know if you think I'm right.

Belize

These two beauties spent a week on the island of Belize.  Much of that time was spent underwater as they did some scuba diving.  Katie is becoming quite a traveler and seems particularly drawn to islands!  I hope to share more picture of their trip in the coming week.  Apparently Perry is heading back to Florida after Thanksgiving to do cavern diving.

It's Official

On Friday Lexy was inducted into the Phil delta Phi-The National French Honor Society.  Congratulations and way to go!

Pinewood Derby

Uncle Andy is one of the activity day leaders in their ward.  He and his partner teacher planned a Pinewood Derby for the 8-11 year-olds.  Caleb was one of those lucky kids!

I Have to Brag

I have four amazing daughters in my life who continually inspire me with their gifts and talents.  I felt especially awed (not surprised) when Aunt Angela sent me pictures of the recent Stake Women's Conference that she put together with the help of her wonderful counselors.  The theme of the conference was Seek Christ.  The sisters were able to attend five classes: Seek Christ through the Temple, Seek Christ by serving others, Seek Christ through gospel learning, Seek Christ by connecting with others, and Seek Christ through emotional resilience.

They also participated in service projects that involved making heart shaped pillows that hospitals give to women who are recovering from breast cancer surgery, crocheting hats and blankets for stillborn babies and they collected underwear and clothes for a local elementary school for children who have accidents at school and they aren't able to reach anyone to bring them a change of clothes

They had a welcome and gathering program for the sisters and each sister was given a paper leaf and asked to write why they were grateful for the Savior.  The leaf was then tied onto a tree.  The sisters had been asked to bring a picture of Jesus from their home for display.  Those pictures were on the decorated table with the tree of leaves.

After the classes they had a catered lunch and wonderful homemade cookies baked by various sisters in the stake.  Aunt Angela said they had so much help and everyone left with a wonderful experience that hopefully sustained them to go back into the world a little stronger and renewed.  They had set up 30 tables with six place settings at each table and all but two of the tables were full.  I've included some pictures!

Knock Me Over With a Feather!

I opened an email this morning from Family Search.  I was excited to see that it was my fathers Draft Registration card.  Imagine my surprise when I found out that his title was "security building elevator boy" when he filled out his form.  For those of us that knew my dad this title really brings a smile.  He was 18 years old and according to this he weighed 142 lbs.  (that would have been the case if he was soaking wet and wearing combats boots!)  He did have the most beautiful blue eyes and although his hair was very black all of my life, apparently he was a blondie when he was younger.  Another surprise to me was that he had a scar on his back.  He never walked around without a shirt on so I guess I missed that as well!
